Meet the Coaching Staff
The Hills Basketball Club (THBC) and SoCal Hoops Basketball Academy (SCHBA) announced that the organizations have entered into a strategic partnership agreement to create the Valley’s first specialized 8-week basketball training program called The Basketball Combine Program – Advanced Training for Middle and High School Athletes. The companies collaborated for several months to create a new basketball training curriculum targeted for elite middle and high school players. The training program is highly focused on player and team development using advanced training methods, game analysis tools, and teaching processes that deliver immediate on-court results. The experienced coaching staff developed a proven 8-week basketball training curriculum to provide players with the necessary skill set and basketball IQ to succeed at the high school level and beyond.
"We are proud and honored to partner with THBC to create a one of a kind basketball training program for players looking to play at the next level,” said Shawn Hackett – Vice President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach SoCal Hoops Basketball Academy. "I’ve been fortunate enough to play collegiate basketball and with over 15 years of high school coaching experience, I know what training methods are effective and actually help players get better in the shortest amount of time. The new 8-week program focuses on improving a player’s basketball fundamentals and ability to make on court decisions that impact the game.”
“With the new partnership with SCHBA, the coaching staff focuses on teaching and analyzing the game of basketball rather than just playing the game with no strategy or intent,” said Don Loperena – President and Founder of The Hills Basketball Club. “I’ve been playing and coaching the game of basketball for over 20 years and know through my experience that any team can compete and win, even if they don’t match up physically and athletically with other teams. There are not a lot of basketball players with the unique ability to quickly and effectively “analyze, read, and react” to game situations and make the correct basketball decisions. We will always teach core basketball fundamentals, while providing players with the advanced thought process to make effective game decisions.”
The new 8-week basketball training program is targeted for advanced middle school and high school players, includes 2 training sessions per week, comprised of competitive drills, intense workouts, regulated games, and structured game review sessions. The coaching staff as well the individual players break down each game to identify player weaknesses and strengths, immediately implementing corrective actions in upcoming training and practice sessions. Players also have access to advanced training equipment including but not limited to basketball shooting machines, Vertimax training platforms, and other training tools. Unlike many travel ball teams that just play games for the sake of playing games, the coaching staff provides the players with high tech game analysis tools, apps, and websites to assess and review player efficiency ratings, individual and team statistics, game film review, and feedback.
“We’ve partnered with Coach Don because of his deep knowledge of the game and unique and effective approach to teaching the game to players who want to play at the next level,” said Randy Narciso – Co-Founder and Head Coach of SoCal Hoops Basketball Academy. “We’ve combined our coaching philosophies to emphasize fundamentals, skills development, and and on-court decisions, core skills that are lacking in many of today’s middle school and high school basketball players. More importantly, our partnership program is structured to ensure players make progress after every practice session and game, thereby thoroughly analyzing game film and player efficiency statistics. We’ve invested over $50,000 in training tools, mobile apps, and advanced Internet technologies to streamline our training sessions and game analyses.”
