Coaching Philosophy
I believe coaching is ALL ABOUT TEACHING, having the ability to teach, influence, and motivate players on an off the court. While playing high school basketball in Las Vegas, Nevada I grew up loving the UNLV Runnin' Rebels and the coaching style of legendary Hall of Fame coach Jerry Tarkanian. I became a student of the game and studied how Coach "Tark the Shark" implemented the ameoba defense and uptempo style of play. In high school, my goal was to try to play basketball at the next level at a lower division school or make it as a walk-on player. Although I did not receive any basketball scholarships, I did receive an academic scholarship to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering to pursue my studies. While in college, I continued to play and coach the game, more at the recreational and intramural level. I returned to USC to obtain my Master's in Business Administration and also continued to coach and play recreational basketball. Through my extensive professional career in the high technology and computer industry, I've been able to see first hand how successful business teams, organizations, and units operate very similarly to successful basketball teams; showcasing unmatched levels of discipline, dedication, teamwork, loyalty, and perseverance. Throughout my professional career, I have used the personal skills I learned in basketball to be very successful in business management, engineering, and entrepreneurship. I want to continue to teach young players how to use the game of basketball to advance in their lives and be successful in anything they do, even if they don't have the skills and abilities to play at the next level.
Coaching youth basketball has become one of my true passions in life. I am fortunate to be able to train and coach my oldest son, Reid, allowing him to compete at the highest levels for his age group. It’s also a joy to see my youngest son, Logan, start picking up the game of basketball at such a young age. Although my two boys and youth players view me as their "Basketball Coach" on the court, I am teaching basketball skills and lifelong lessons that players will keep with them forever. Now, the ultimate goal is trying to develop and offer a long term sustainable basketball training program and opportunity for all young athletes in our community, allowing them to become great individuals on and off the court.
